Mid-October Update

I know, I know. It's been a MONTH since I posted, but what a month it's been! Here goes:
  • Wednesday, September 16th - My principal asked if I thought Seane would be interested in a job as a Special Ed teacher for our Emotionally Disturbed students at Nimitz. I said "Probably not" but asked him anyway. Turns out he IS interested, so we started all of the paperwork to get him into the iTeachTexas teacher certification program. I go to my Ladies' Bible study rejoicing, because not only has God opened a door for Seane to start bringing in some income, but I'm also pretty sure I'm pregnant!
  • Friday, September 18th - I found out that I'm not pregnant (bummer) but I figure that the joy is in the trying...
  • Saturday, September 26th - Went shopping for a new mattress since ours was KILLING our backs. We've been sleeping on the couch, on the floor, in the recliner, in the guest bed... not good. We found one we liked and ended up buying it in a KING (YAY!) on Sunday.
  • September 28th through October 2nd - I lived through my first testing experience at Nimitz, the TAKS-M Field Test, as well as Open House and College Night (all in the same week! YUCK!)
  • Saturday, October 3rd - I went to San Angelo with Emily and Piper and had soooo much fun with my girls! I've missed seeing Em every day, so we just laughed and talked and dished and even snuck in a quick trip to Eggemeyer's General Store! Piper is so sweet and beautiful - I really need a girl (but boys are wonderful, too).
  • Sunday, October 4th - We're total slackers and play hookey from church, spending all day cleaning house and playing with Cy.
  • Monday, October 5th - At 4:00 pm I freak out because I've just called the iTeachTexas people and they've informed me that Seane will have to take and PASS the Special Ed certification test for entrance into their program. I'm a little miffed that no one told us this before, since we could have been studying for 2 weeks now.
  • Tuesday, October 6th - Still crying, feeling like my world is falling apart, feeling like my faith is so weak, feeling like God is testing me and I'm failing... AND Cy's day care tells us we'll need to come in and observe him because he's STILL biting. What a day!
  • Wednesday, October 7th - Seane and I spend all day at OC watching Cy through 2-way glass. We were able to have a good conversation with his teachers about what we saw, and found some things to work on. He's generally biting in retaliation, so we're working on "using our words"...
  • Thursday & Friday, October 8th & 9th - We survive! We headed to Denton at about 5:30 (but stopped in Midland for a quick supper and fuel fill-up). We hit DB and Angela's house about midnight and made ourselves at home, as always, promptly passing out in the front bedroom.
  • Saturday, October 10th - "Des & the boys" hit what I'm considering the World's Biggest Garage Sale (AKA "Trader's Village"). Think of it as a really big, cheap, kitschy (???) version of Canton. I was cold and miserable, but the guys had fun and I earned a Grande Decaf Caramel Macchiato for my good behavior (much to the amusement of Seane and DB, who were impressed that I could say all that!) We went to Bass Pro Shop and I was really good and didn't buy anything, and then went home and Cy and I took a big nap (2 hours for him and 3 for me)! I woke up just in time for a "Rock Band" concert before dinner. We finished off the night with a lively game of Catan (our fave!) after the kids went to bed. Angel and I went to bed, but the big boys stayed up and played until all hours. I vaguely remember Seane coming in about 3 am.
  • Sunday, October 11th - We got up this morning and had colaches and donuts for a too-late breakfast, considering we had made plans to meet the Bivins' friends (and ours, too, now), John and Marin and their boys for lunch at Taco Cabana at 11. We went back to the house after lunch and played one more game of Catan while Cy napped (I won, OH YEAH!) and then headed home about 3. Seane and I ran through a 50-question quiz to study for his Special Ed test (which he'll take on Monday, Oct. 19th). We did okay, and I feel confident that with some more studying this week, he'll do GREAT! We just ate dinner at Buck's Diner in Sweetwater - I had the Hamburger Steak & it was DELISH! I'm ready to be home, but not really ready to get up for work tomorrow.
Yeah, that's pretty much the story of our lives this last few weeks. Please continue to pray for us as Seane prepares for his test and I help him as much as I can. Still trying to get pregnant, but we know that GOD'S TIMING IS PERFECT!!! Hopefully I'll have lots of good news to post soon! Love y'all!!!
